A week is a long time in politics...

Writer: Stephen McNamaraStephen McNamara

It really is true what they say. And what a week it has been! Highs, lows, highs, lows... As many of you know, it has been a particularly difficult week for the family, but the good news is that things appear to have stabilised somewhat. Certainly enough to allow me to return to work and continue with my election campaign in Edinburgh.

The City of Edinburgh is a council that much of the rest of Scotland looks towards for inspiration and leadership in local politics. It is very much in the front line of day to day services that people use. Thankfully, it's not as bad as some of the other services provided by councils in other parts of Scotland, but that doesn't mean that they can rest.

In the Inverleith ward, I am the only independent candidate on offer to the locals. Each of the others are tied to a national political party with their own agendas. Being independent allows for me to serve the voters in a way that best suits them and not any particular party. As many of my political colleagues and opponents, past and present, will testify, my work ethic is second to none and if elected, I will be able to focus my work on the needs of Inverleith and Edinburgh as a whole.
