It’s all over bar the counting…

Well there we have it. The polling stations are all closed and the voting is over. In a few hours time the ballot boxes will start to be counted and we’ll soon know the results.

Except we already know the Scottish Libertarian Party results from East Ayrshire:

Annick: 0 votes

Kilmarnock North: 0 votes

Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse: 0 votes

Kilmarnock East and Hurlford: 0 votes

Irvine Valley: 0 votes

Ballochmyle: 0 votes

Cumnock and New Cumnock: 0 votes

Doon Valley: 0 votes

So far it’s looking pretty bleak…

Then there were so many other members interested in running, either as active, or even paper candidates, that we’re simply ignored.

We do know how the East Ayrshire result is particularly bad. The Nomination Officer, and Party Leader, refused to sign the candidate’s certificates of authorisation, citing to the Deputy Leader and Chairwoman of the Constitutional Committee that he did not want to “give them” a platform.

A platform to what exactly? Promoting libertarianism? Getting much needed votes for the SLP? Encouraging potential new members to join?

Or are the reasons much more sinister? Was the sabotaged platform because of the leadership challenge? Was it to limit these candidate’s vocal reach in case they may sway other members to vote for me at the AGM?

Why was East Ayrshire sacrificed?

For the first time since 2017, I have not been able to vote for a libertarian candidate in an election, yet the option was there to stand libertarian candidate. Why did the SLP leader block those candidates from standing?
